Flashcards

As you write, you can mark spots in your notes as study cards — a question and its answer. Minerva gathers those cards into a deck you can export and review in a flashcard app. Only the cards you mark are included; the rest of your notes are left alone.

Writing a card

A card is a short block that starts with [!card] and uses a --- divider to separate the question (on top) from the answer (below):

[!card] Geography What is the capital of France? --- **Paris**

The word after [!card] names the deck the card belongs to, and it's optional. Write as many cards as you like across your notes.

Which deck a card lands in

Minerva decides a card's deck by looking, in order, for the first of these:

The card's own label

The deck name you wrote right after [!card] — Geography in the example above.

The note's deck setting

A deck name set once in the note's properties, used for every card in that note.

The note's folder

If you haven't named a deck, cards are grouped by the folder the note lives in, so related notes end up together.

A default deck

Anything left over goes into a general deck so no card is lost.

Editing cards later

You can go back and reword a card at any time. When you export again, Minerva recognizes it as the same card and updates it in place rather than creating a duplicate — so your review progress carries over.
